Ahmednagar is a city in Ahmednagar district in the state of Maharashtra, India, on the left bank of the Sina river, about 100 km southeast of Pune. Ahmednagar is also the headquarters of the Ahmednagar District. Ahmadnagar had a population of 39,941.
AHMEDNAGAR HISTORY
The town was founded in 1494 by Ahmad Nizam Shah, on the site of a more ancient city, Bhingar. Ahmad established a new sultanate in Ahmednagar, also known as Nizam Shahi dynasty. The name of the District Ahmednagar has come from the name of the founder of the town Ahmednagar by Ahmed Shah Nizam Shah. The district has historical heritage. The District place Ahmednagar has many places of Historical importance including Ahmednagar fort where many national heroes of Indian Freedom Struggle including Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru were detained during Indian freedom movement. .
