The Places of Interest and Sight Seeing



• Amruthapura :About 10 kms from Tarikere, this little town has a 800 year old temple dedicated to Amrutheswara.



• Kemmanagundi :55 kms north of Chikmagalur, this is a scenic hill station, situated on the Baba Budan range at a height of 1,434 m. 8 kms from Kemmanagundi are the Hebbe Falls where the water gushes down from a height of 168 m in two stages. The Kalhatti falls are 10 kms from Kemmanagundi. The water here cascades down a height of 122 m. There is also a local temple here, constructed in a gap between rocks.



• Kudremukh :95 kms south-west of Chikmagalur is the secluded hill station of Kudremukh. Situated 1894 m above sea level, the Kudremukh hill overlooks the Arabian Sea and are chained to one another with deep valleys and steep precipices. There is rich flora and fauna here, waiting to be discovered. Caves asking to be explored. Ruins and traces of an old civilization inviting a study. Lovely, unspoilt places to camp ...Can any trekker resist Kudremukh? This place is also rich in iron-ore deposits.



• Sringeri :Sringeri is a pilgrim centre, known for its Vidyashankara Temple. It has 12 zodiac pillars on each of which the sun's rays fall according to the time of the year.



• Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary :(Muthodi) 38 kms north-west, this sanctuary is a must for wildlife enthusiasts. Gaur, chital, sambar, elephants and tigers are some of the wildlife found here.



• Kallathigiri Falls :Just 10 kms away from Kemmangundi is Kallahathigiri Falls, also known as Kalahasti falls. Water cascades down from the top of the Chandra Drona hill from a height of 122 meters amidst fascinating scenery.



• Hebbe Falls :This beautiful waterfall is over 10 kms away from the famous hill station, Kemmangundi. Here water streams down from a height of 168 meters in two stages to form Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls).



• The Baba Budan Range :28 Kms north of Chickmaglur town, Baba Budan Range gets its name from the muslim sage Baba Budan, who is believed to have introduced coffee to India. The range has one of the highest peaks between the Himalayas and the Niligiris. The highest point is 'Mullaiyangiri' - 1900 m & has 3 caves, sanctified by 3 sages & containing their icons & tombs. A sacred centre, 'Seethala Mallikarjuna' near a cave, and a mutt lend the place a mystic touch. Near Baba Budangiri peak are the 3 famous waterfalls - Gada Theertha, Kamana Theertha and Nellikayi Theertha.



• Shivagiri Trails :The view from Shiva Giri, about 50 kms from Chickmagalur, located above the forests of 'Yemedoddi' is spectacular - providing an awesome view of the river' Bhadra' and the 'Lakkavalli Dam'. The Yemmedoddi forests were once the favoured hunting grounds of the British - tigers, panthers, sloth bear, deer are sighted here.



• Kudremukh (Horse Race) :95 km south west of Chikmaglur, overlooking the Arabian sea - is a trekkers paradise, rich with verdant forests, rivers, grassy slopes, waterfalls, rare flora and caves ancient ruins.



• Kemmanagundi :An exceptionally beautiful hill station named after King Krishna Rajendra Wodeyar IV, it is one of the best trekking spots among the lush forests of the Baba Budangiri hills - it offers panoramic views, senic waterfalls & lovely sunset views.



• Hebbe Falls :An 8 Km trek from Kemmangundi, along a steep and arrow path, leads you to Hebbe Falls. Surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations, the water gushes down from 165 metres in two stages to form 'Dodda Hebbe' (big falls) & Chikka Hebbe (small falls).



• Kalahatti Falls :Approx 10 km from Kemmanagundi, and also known as 'Kalahasti Falls', the water here cascades down from 122 m from the top of Chandra Drona Hill to flow before the Veerabhaddreshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
