This industrial town, renowned for its cloth mills and granary, is one of the major cities in Karnataka. The administrative headquarters of Davangere district, Davangere is popularly known as the Textile Capital of South India or the Manchester of the South. Davangere is also famous for delicacies like Benne Dose, Mandakki-Menasinakaayi and Gulladaki Undi.

Davangere is located on the south-central part of Karnataka on NH4 at a distance of about 260 km away from Bangalore. Situated on the banks of the river Noyyal, Davangere is nestled at the foothills of the Western Ghats.
