INFORMATION ABOUT ERODE An important Municipal town of Tamil Nadu, Erode is located at a distance of 100 kms east of Coimbatore. The River Cauvery flows through the district. One of the most influential districts of Tamil Nadu in terms of economy as well as politics, a tour to Erode is a definite must-have in your trip itinerary to Tamil Nadu.
ERODE HISTORY A number of legends are associated with the nomenclature of the district of Erode, many of which also have certain religious connotations. Historically, the earliest references to the district can be traced back to as early as 850 A.D., when the district came under the reign of the Cholas with its headquarters at Dharmapuram. The following centuries saw several bloody battles as generations after generations of rulers waged wars to get the control of this prestigious province. Due to the battles waged by countless generations of the Marathas, British and the rulers of several provinces like Mysore, the once rich and beautiful region of Erode faced a ruin that was to an extent recovered from during the reign of the British, when much of Erode’s erstwhile prestige was reinstated.
