INFORMATION ABOUT RANCHI

Ranchi, Capital of Jharkhand is also called as city of Water falls and lakes. Ranchi is a city of Falls and Forest. Administrative Setup in Ranchi is divided into Ranchi, Khunti and Bundu subdivisions and each subdivision is further divided into blocks, panchayats and villages.

RANCHI HISTORY

Earlier the name of the district was Lohardaga. The old district had come into existence after the creation of the non-regulation South – West frontier as a result of the Kol rising in 1831-32. The name of the district was changed in 1899 from Lohardaga to Ranchi after the name of a small village now comprised within the headquarters station.

It is believed that when Kempe Gowda I built the new capital in 1537 AD, he used a more anglicised version of the name Benguluru and called the town Bangalore. Kempegowda- I's mother and wife both belonged to the township that is known as Halebenguluru today

• Parasnath or Shikharjee :A major pilgrimage of the Jain's about 200 km from Ranchi in Girdih District.
